According to the ministerial decree 128800/Γ7/19-11-2003 on School Libraries a library's function is to :
actively serve and support the educational needs of the school community, in priority students and following that the teaching and rest of the staff, emphasizing on the school syllabus.
collect, manage and spread information of value to students and teachers
support the educational process so that freedom of thought is practiced as well as the student's critical ability
decode information overload with the assistance of the teachers, trained to effectively use library means and material. Teachers must initially familiarize themselves with library usage in order to integrate it in the teaching process.

the school library closely collaborates with the teachers in their common effort to include information literacy in teaching and to practice lifelong learning techniques.
