Analipseos church

The metropolitan temple of Christ's Ascention (Analipseos) faces the Town Hall in the center of Magoula. Celebrations are held every June 1st .

In the churchyard there is a memorial tombstone of the Second World War and the Korean War casualties, which reads: “We, the people of Magoula, have raised this here memorial in remembrance of our fellow citizens who fought for their country”.

The old temple offers no records as to when it was built, according to historian -researcher Vaggelis Liapis. The monument's scarce historical data are recorded in V.Liapis aforementioned book. Writes mr. Liapis: “Concerning the church honoring our Lord's Ascention, there is no evidence as to its construction. No records, no stories, no mechanic, no sponsor, nothing that would help date it. Some say that the whole village helped build it. Naturally this was in accordance with the sense of solidarity reigning in a small community back then. They say stone from the isle of Aigina was transported on carts from the harbor of Elefsina. This is also a childhood memory of my father's, who recalls his father carrying rocks from Elefsina for the churches of St. George there and Analipseos in Magoula drawn by a gray cart-horse.

The year 1885 was recorded as the year of its first mass service.

The similarity of construction between the two temples (if we exclude the rather unfortunate idea of plastering St. George) leads us to date both of them at the same period.
